LO1: Examples of Promos

Examples of Promo's:

1. Entertain (eg: film trailer)

The purpose of this promotion material is to advertise the upcoming film 'baby driver', an action/crime drama set for release at the end of June 2017. Due to the fast paced action and reference to violence this trailer primarily targets a male ABC1 demographic as stereotypically, men favour this genre.Due to the content of the trailer I belive this film will mostly appeal to 16-24 year olds as this kind of thrilling material covers a variety of visceral pleasures such as counter cultural attaraction seen as the promo contains fast paced crime. The advertisement is distributed across a variety of media platforms including YOUTUBE, Tv, social media and cinema meaning it can be easily accessed by the aformentioned demographic. The visual aspect of the film is continuous with frequent cross cutting to connote the pace at which the narrative takes place this will directly appeal to the audience as often slow progression is off putting to younger people. There is often the non digetic sound of sirens to remind the viewer of the genre and digetic to help with the progression of the narrative - this begins to tell the story and entices the viewer into seeing the full film. The promo last for 2.31.

2. Inform (e.g public service information)

This public service information film from the BFI is intended to inform children of specific dangers, in this case wandering off unannounced. The audio visual piece is aimed directly at children aged 3-10 what with the use of a cartoon characters which was distributed between programmes in commercial ad breaks to target children directly. The ad is 1 minute long to keep a child engaged as it is common for a child to loose interest and the message being conveyed is an important one hence the specific time period of which the promo features for. The audio visual aspect appeals directly to the child by using both animation and animals which are favoured by children, the voice over features a teacher to pupil mode of address due to the context of the video.

3. Educate (e.g. online software tutorials)

The abode creative cloud promo shows how to create a double exposure using adobe software, it is aimed toward a 16-24 ABC1 demographic which an firstly afford the software and also people of school/college age as it is likely that at this age they would be in need of tutorials. This promo has been distributed on the web as to aptly target their audience of people wanting to learn to use such softwares as it is likely due to age that they would search on the internet. The audio and visuals work together in the sense that the viewer can follow along the on screen instructions and see how different editing techniques can be done so that they are able to do it themselves. There is no dialouge to the step by step guide as this allows the viewer to concentrate on the steps and see which tools are being used - this is done well as they are enlarged for easy viewing. The lengnth of the educational promo is 1 minute, this shows the person viewing that the 'How To' is simple - should this be a lengthy video viewers may loose interest and as a result miss steps.

4. Promote/advertise (e.g music video, indent)

This audio visual promo is for Ed Sheeran's 'Castle on the hill' , a song brought out early in march 2017, its target audience is young people who listen to chart music. This audio visual promotion is distributed across a variety of platforms in order to appeal to a mass target audience, these platforms include Web, Tv and Social media. This allows it to be accessed by a variety of people, not just those mentioned briefly above. The narrative of the song is foloowed in the form of visuals throughout matching scenes to what Ed Sheeran is singing. This is done to add further development to the song and allow viewers and listners to understand meaning. The video cross cuts in several places which connotes the fast paced life that these teenages lead - this then hard cuts to present day when Sheeran himself is driving the car and reflecting on his past.
